Elise had her cast off in November 2007!
our concultant said she would need 6 month checks ups till the age of five.
we didnt realise we were supposed to make the appointment on the way out!!
through the excitment off seeing her legs for the first time in 7 half months i think we might have been side tracked anyway.
i rang Alder Hey this morning (still not realising we should have made the appointment).
there is now a wait until October 2008!!
thats nearly a year from when she had her cast off.
because im anxious to have it confirmed everything is ok, i rang Mr Bruce's secratery to see what she could do. she said usually if someone needs seeing he will wait till there are a few children then do a night clinic.
i hope he will see her!!
it's our own fault for not realising we had to make an appointment but its a long time to have to wait!!

Hi
I'd feel exactly the same, hope all works out and you get an appointment sooner you'd think they would fit her in at the end of clinic somewhere.
I've never heard of having to make your own appointments before leaving, in Southampton they always say they want to see her in 6 weeks and post an appointment out.
Take care

We are also at Alder hey and have had similar appointment issues. Our daughter was discharged after having a Salters Osteotomy on a Saturday therefore there was no one around to make the appointment for the cast to be removed. The following week and several (sometimes irate )phonecalls later we eventually got a date to take her back.
When she was discharged after the removal of the cast,i was determined to get an appointment before i left, but the ward clark had gone awol,so therefore no follow up appointment could be made although i was assured that one would be sent out for the 6 week review.
After a couple of weeks with no appointment,i rang the hospital and after being passed from one department to another as Mr Bruce secretary was off, someone promised to make an appointment, but i would be unable to see Mr Bruce as he was already booked up for the dates where she should have been seen.Aaaaargh.
Anyway,we did see another Consultant who was very nice and everything looked fine.
Thankfully, we were able to make her next appointment before leaving and she will be seen again in June,by Mr Bruce.
Our daughter has recieved first class treatment whilst in Hospital, but the appointment system unfortunately for us has proved to be a bit of a let-down at times.

Ella has been under Mr Bruce for 6 years now and they used to just slot you in as an extra if he'd specified a time frame but you sometimes had to wait 2-3 hours in clinic (which I'd rather do than wait months longer!) so now they're not allowed to overbook clinics. Instead if you need an appt and the clinic is overbooked they put you on a list and when there are enough names on the list he puts on an extra clinic.
This is what happened to us last time and we didn't have long too wait, i think it was only a week longer than it should have been so as long as her name is on the list you should be okay.
Good luck!
Clare
