Easy ways to help and get involved

We appreciate that it is not always possible to hold an event or raise money for STEPS. The list below details other EASY ways you can support our work by helping us to help others like yourself.

If you would like any further information or to volunteer your support, please call 01925 750271 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for your support.

Distribute leaflets

To help raise awareness about STEPS and the conditions we support, it would be really great if you could distribute our leaflets to your local hospital or GP surgery/clinic. We find that a personal visit has more impact because posting out 'cold' to hospitals may not result in our leaflets being displayed in the most effective places.

Become a STEPS Family Contact

Whether your child is affected by clubfoot, hip dysplasia or any other lower limb deficiency many parents tell us that having the opportunity to talk to other families who can share experiences relating to their child’s condition has been of great benefit and certainly helped to lessen their feelings of isolation.

Share your personal story on our website or magazine

Your stories act as an inspiration to others and help put a face to our work. They also inspire others to get involved and help raise important issues. Most importantly, these stories help us reach out to other people, who may be in a difficult situation, with advice, information and support. We are always looking for stories, so if you want to get involved email your story, with high resolution photos if possible, to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it along with your permission to publish on our website or in our magazine.

Raise awareness and get publicity

We are always trying to reach a wider audience and raise awareness of STEPS and the conditions we support. Most newspapers/magazines are interested in human interest stories and would find your personal experience of having a child affected by a hip spica would appeal to their readers.

Support STEPS events

Many of you who contact us feel there is real benefit to get to meet others who are facing or have faced similar challenges in coping with a lower limb condition. To make these events a success, we need your participation to make them work. Watch out for details which will be listed on our website news pages, forum, e-newlsette, social networking sites and our bi-annual magazine.

Keep us updated

Even if you have already completed a registration form, please let us know about how treatment is progressing.  This helps us to appreciate the needs of supporters and allows us to match Family Contacts more accurately. We particularly want to know whether people continue to be affected by their conditions as they grow up and reach adulthood.

Set up a local support group

We are looking for parents to set up a local support group in all parts of the UK maybe in partnership with their local hospital.  If this is something that appeals to you, and you would like to meet with people in the same situation as yourself, please give us a call to discuss how to get started on 01925 750271.

Send in your photographs

We are always looking for good quality photographs which clearly show the treatment for your child’s condition, eg. in hip spica, boots and bars, plaster cast, frames, etc.  We promise that these photographs will be for STEPS use only and will not be passed to any third parties without permission. Please email photos as a jpeg file to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Promote us on your social networking sites

More and more people are using social networking sites as a way to communicate with each other which is great because it’s free, easy to use and reaches a large audience. Spread the word about STEPS and become our fan on Facebook or become a follower on Twitter. We are always looking to make our pages more appealing, so if you are an expert and have any suggestions to make our page look more exciting, then please get in touch

Recommend your favourite products

We are continually updating our STEPS Equipment List which features items such as pushchairs, high chairs, seating, clothing, etc, which are suitable for children in hip spica casts.  The list has been put together by recommendations from other parents and if you have used anything we could add to the list, please do get in touch and let us know.

Collection box at home or work

Thanks to a well known supermarket we are all familiar with the phrase “every little helps” so if you would like to keep a cardboard collection box at home or at work to collect all your unwanted change in, it would really make a big difference to STEPS. Please call 01925 750274 to get a box posted out to you.
