The Florence Nightingale Aid in Sickness Trust was established in 1975 to relieve in cases of need persons who are sick, convalescent, disabled, handicapped or infirm by providing or paying for items, services or facilities which are calculated to alleviate the suffering or assist the recovery of such cases but are not readily available to them from other sources provided that preference shall be given to duly qualified persons who have professional, secretarial or administrative qualifications or experience.
The Trustees have a wide choice in the sort of help they can give: - Convalescent care - Respite care - Medical and other aids, e.g. nebulisers, TENS machines, riser/recliner chairs, electric beds, orthopaedic mattresses, mobile hoists - Household aids - washing machines for soiled clothing and bed linen Refrigerators for essential drug storage Secure drug cabinets - Telephone installation or mobile phones in rare cases - Assistance with hospital visiting expenses
Grants are not usually given for any of the following:
- House alterations, adaptations, improvements or maintenance - Car purchase or car adaptations ( They will consider Child Car Seats) - Electric wheelchairs, scooters or buggies - Holidays, carers' breaks, exchange visits, Nursing Home fees - Debts or repayments - General clothing - Computers and software - General house furnishing

An application form can be obtained or alternatively you can download an application form below and post to the above address. The initial approach should be from a Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Doctor, Health Centre, or another charity and contain a brief medical history of the client and verification of the need for assistance.
