Clubfoot: Tips from parents

Sharon Wignall, mum to Harrison who was diagnosed with clubfoot, has produced a leaflet with lots of tips and hints on how, as a parent, you can deal with your child and their clubfoot treatment. To download Sharon's leaflet, please click on the download shown on the right hand side of this page

"When Harrison was born we discovered he had talipes in his right foot. We finally found the Ponseti method of correction and decided to follow this in order to give Harrison his best chance of having his foot corrected. We sailed through the first few weeks. However once he received his boots and bar it all went wrong. From his feet falling out of them every 5 minutes, he had sores all over his feet which got infected and he cried 24 hours a day. Through the Steps Discussion Forum we found many caring and helpful friends. They gave us their insight on how to overcome our problems and importantly also supported us emotionally. Had we had that information on day one we wouldn't have gone through some of the pains we did. I soon discovered that looking at the forum over a number of years the same advice comes out time and time again. But you have to find it and know what to ask! I decided to pull the advice together into one leaflet for new parents to try and stop them from going through the pain that we did. I hope its of use to someone starting the Ponseti journey just as we did two and half years ago. Its now a doddle and I really hope that it is that easy for everyone else out there."
