About the STEPS Hip Spica Care project news pages.
This project created mini-films, up to 10 minutes each in duration. Each mini-film concentrated on one specific aspect of hip spica care such as hygiene, eating, clothing, etc. The Manchester Children’s Hospital is our partner in the Department of Health funded project.
The films were shot at locations in homes and NHS settings around the north west of England. We used an informal approach towards the filming and presentation of the clips, with an emphasis on visual demonstrations; in style it is a bit like a ‘YouTube’ type ‘cookery lesson’ on how to look after a child in a hip spica. There are two age groups: Babies & Toddlers and The Older Child.
The aim of the project is not just to provide practical information but to offer emotional support by helping to relieve the feelings of isolation; we hope it will be like having a virtual friend going through similar experiences.

This is our first focus group meeting of parents of older and younger children. We will be creating a regular podcast, click here to go to the link.
