steps is supporting this 3 day conference, 11th – 13 November 2007, The Lowry Centre, Salford Quays. The 13th November is a day focusing on the Global Issues of treating clubfoot. The first two days focus on the treatment of clubfoot.
The conference is aimed at health professionals and humanitarian aid organisations working in healthcare in developing countries.
The neglected clubfoot deformity worldwide is one of the biggest causes of preventable disability in children. 135,000 newborns annually are born with the clubfoot deformity, 80% in the developing world, most with little or no access to orthopaedic care
A sustainable solution to the problem is the implementation of an inexpensive, effective, low technology system of treatment (The Ponseti Method) on a country-wide basis.
Presentations will include: The Ugandan Project, the CBM/Cure initiative, Country reports from Malawi, Laos, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and discussion will centre around ‘What are the Barriers?’, health promotion and the UK contribution.
