Prenatal Diagnosis

Sarah Russell, Consultant Radiologist, St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester

This short presentation looks at the role of prenatal diagnosis in the management of talipes. Ultrasound is very ‘operator dependent’ and  it looks at what factors influence the sensitivity of prenatal US in the detection of any structural abnormality. It then shows what we know from large reviews about talipes cases detected prenatally – what other tests are appropriate, in what circumstances and can we reliably prognosticate from the scan findings regarding postnatal outcome? Examples of talipes will be shown and an outline given of the delivery of the Regional Prenatal Diagnostic Service.
