| Kenya | Kenya Clubfoot Project |
This project is a joint venture between steps Charity Worldwide and Bethany Children's Hospital in Kenya to address the problem of untreated clubfoot in Kenya and develop a programme for the early identification and treatment of the clubfoot deformities. The project has 3 key areas:
With nearly 1000 babies born in Kenya with one or two clubfeet each year, in the last ten years it's affected nearly 10,000 children. Many of these children have never had any treatment or had inadequate treatment. Most of the children with neglected clubfeet are condemned to a downward spiral of deformity, disability, dependency, demoralization, depression and despair. They are socially and economically disadvantaged in life. If infants in Kenya born with clubfeet could be diagnosed early and treated with an appropriate method, those children would lead a normal life instead of being severely disabled with all the afore-mentioned consequences.
This project will put in place training and knowledge that will have a lasting and long term effect to this community. Working in partnership to help build the capacity of local health services and the knowledge and understanding of local parents to help them get the best treatment available for their children.
