The STEPS Forum has been established for any parent, carer or family member who has been affected by clubfoot, hip dysplasia or any other lower limb condition. You will discover a wealth of information written by others facing a similiar situation to yourself.  You will also be able to read personal stories, shared experiences, ask questions and receive encouragement. It is important to note that many people post because they are experiencing problems and this can come across 'negative' especially to someone who is waiting for treatment to start. However, please be assured that many children who are affected by a lower limb condition do go on to have active lives so please do post your success stories as well.

Anyone can browse the topics, however, if you would like to post a comment you will need to be an existing member or create a new account. (see above) Please complete all the required fields with an asterisk and we will endeavour to activate your account as soon as possible. We apologise for any delay in your registration, particularly at weekends. You may still browse the forum in the meantime. To view previous posts and see the full list of forum categories please click on the pink "index" tab.

General Guidelines

No matter if your child is in treatment for 6 weeks or two years - the length of treatment or treatment type does not matter.

Please do not make assumptions about other people’s experiences, everyone has different coping mechanisms and tolerance levels. Please be sensitive and kind to one another. Please be aware of how you give advice to others – don’t make statements about what other parents should and shouldn’t do. In addition, please don’t make judgements about other parents and the way they do things.

It is fine to talk about your experiences at your local doctors or hospital. However, if you have had negative experiences or wish to be critical of a particular doctors surgery, hospital department or individual member of staff, please do NOT name them. You may find yourself liable to legal action and STEPS will take no responsibility for this.

Any posts that are abusive, offensive, discriminate against another parent’s ethnic background, culture, religion, age, sex, sexuality, class, disability or political beliefs will be removed. The offender will be then be banned from any future postings on our forum.

Due to the high level of traffic on the board, STEPS reserves the right to remove any posts that have been inactive for six months or more. STEPS will also deactivate users who have been inactive for over a year. If you find that your account has been deactivated, please re-register your account, and in most occasions, your account will be active within 24 hours.

Please be aware that the STEPS forum is a public message board – many people read the forums, but may not actually be members. For this reason, we advise that you do not post your telephone number, home address or email address on the message board. If you wish to contact another member, please contact our helpline on 01925 750271 or info@steps.org.uk and we can help you to get in touch.

Basic etiquette

Please don’t use all capital letters in your posts – it’s considered ‘shouting’ online and it makes posts difficult to read.

Please try not to use abbreviations or ‘text speak’. Again it’s difficult to read and some people might not understand you, this may cause a member to take unintentional offence, or feel excluded from the forum.

Please try to use correct punctuation in your posts – long sentences with no commas or full stops can be confusing and difficult to read.

Speak your mind freely, but please be sensitive to the feelings and opinions of others. You might not always agree, but you can agree to disagree in a peaceful manner.

Please remember that it is all too easy for the tone and meaning of posts to be misinterpreted – think carefully before replying to a topic. Likewise it is important to remember that things written rather than said can feel much stronger, so please bear this in mind when reading other people’s messages.

If a user is found to be swearing during their conversations the moderators reserve the right to edit the thread, without warning. At no point is swearing or inappropriate word usage allowed on the message board.

STEPS reserves the right to take whatever action is necessary to ensure the message board is a safe and supportive place for all its users. Posts which are made at times when the board is not being moderated, for example, evenings, weekends or over holiday periods, that appear to be deliberately inappropriate or inflammatory will result in the users’ account being suspended and reviewed.

The primary purpose of the STEPS message board is to act as a source of information, support and advice. However there is a specific forum for fundraising and if you wish to promote a fundraising activity which will benefit STEPS directly then please post messages on the fundraising forum. It is not acceptable to use the STEPS forum to sell tickets or promote fundraising events for other organisations or individual hospitals. These postings will be removed by the moderators.

Other activities

If you wish to arrange exchanges of clothes or other items pleae post in the Buy/Sell/Swap thread. If you want to arrange a meet up or fundraising activity please post in the Meeting up/Fundraising thread. If you have a personal blog or would like to share your story please post on the Blogs and Diaries section. If you would like to share your experience on our main website please email your story to julie@steps-charity.org.uk including a jpeg of some photos.

The message boards are not to be used to advertise any websites, products and services. Any posts deemed to be advertising will be removed. However it is fine if parents suggest products or services in response to an enquiry from another parent, for example, websites with useful clothing, shoes etc.

Do not post anything you don’t have the right to publish or which violates copyright. This also includes copying the STEPS logo without permission.

DISCLAIMER: Please note that STEPS does not currently review messages before they are posted - opinions expressed on the STEPS forum are those of the author and not necessarily of STEPS.
